OSKALOOSA — Whether you’re planning a night out with your sweetheart or staying alone, here are several last-minute ideas for celebrating Valentine’s Day locally.
Pella Art Center Valentine’s Day Art Evening – Bring a friend, spouse, child, parent, grandparent, or date for an arts night from 6:30-8 p.m. on February 11. The course is designed for groups of two, and one participant from each pair must be an adult.
Participants will be guided through the process of making tiles and cardboard posters. Each couple will make and take home a total of four coasters. Entrants should bring six to eight color and/or black and white photos printed on plain paper. Image size should be between 3 x 3 and 4 x 4 inches. The class is for ages eight and up. The cost is $45 for residents or $54 for non-residents.
Sunnyslope Greenhouse’s Valentine’s Day Silk Flower Class – Stop by Sunnyslope Greenhouse to learn how to create a beautiful arrangement for your home or your lover at 5:30 p.m. on February 10. Registration costs $10. Register before 5 p.m. on Wednesday, February 9.
Tassel Ridge Winery in Leighton hosts several date-worthy events before the holidays.
February is Valentine’s Wine and Chocolate Month at the winery. Celebrate with a seated wine and chocolate pairing at Tassel Ridge Winery by reservation only and/or with a wine and chocolate pairing kit to go or ship directly to your home in Iowa, Arizona, California, Colorado, DC , Florida, Minnesota, Missouri and Texas.
Seated couples are $15 per person or $10 for Harvest Club members.
- Wine and Taco Night, February 11: Enjoy a glass of Tassel Ridge wine with your selection from the taco menu. Seated tastings will be available by reservation only. Call 641-672-9463 to register.
- Valentine’s Day Wine and Pasta Night, February 14: Treat your Valentine to a romantic and casual dinner at Tassel Ridge Winery. Dinner begins at 5:30 p.m. with a seated wine tasting flight featuring the four wines from the dinner menu. The wine tasting will be followed by a chopped caprese salad with Tassel Ridge Prelude followed by a pasta trio with your choice of Tassel Ridge Iowa Candleglow White or Iowa Pizzeria & Pasta Too!. For dessert, treat yourself to a turtle cheesecake with Tassel Ridge Oskyfizzante Pink. Cost is $50 per person or $45 for Harvest Club members. The tasting bar will not be open but seated tastings will be available by reservation only.
Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter Caramel Apple Fundraiser – Satisfy your sweet tooth and keep the doctor away in one bite with a homemade caramel apple from Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter. Apples are $15 each.
Mahaska Drug Valentine’s Day Bake Sale – Treat yourself or your valentine to a number of delicious treats at Mahaska Drug from February 11-14. All proceeds from the event will go to Oskaloosa Elementary and Oskaloosa Christian schools to purchase books for their libraries.
